Gretta Hubbard Marsh

Hello,

I am researching the late Gretta Hubbard (married name Gretta Marsh) and her career in the area of disaster relief. I believe she is an alumna of Ottawa University (possibly graduating around the year 1906-1910). Is there anything in the library archives about her? Can you share with me any information about her including her possible graduation year and her major of study? Gretta passed away in 1984.

Any information would be much appreciated!

Thanks,

Camela Swanson

Answer

Hello Camela

All of our early directories are available online for easy searching. Here is our alumni directory for 1886-1917. She was not a graduate of the College, and did not get her college degree at Ottawa University.

https://myottawa.ottawa.edu/ICS/icsfs/Alumni_Directory_1886-1917.pdf?target=b08f02fe-5154-4299-b508-b60124e4d47b

However, she was a high school graduate. In the 1900's we had a high school, The Academy here at Ottawa University. It was separate from the College.  If you go to

https://myottawa.ottawa.edu/ICS/Resources/Myers_Library_Online/Archives_and_Collections/Ottawa_University_Annual_Catalogues_1872-1970.jnz

You will see her listed as being in the Junior class in Annual Catalogue for 1908-09 pg. 108; Annual Catalogue for 1910-1911 pg. 108 Third year class and then Fourth year class in the Annual Catalogue for 1911-12 pg 96.

Gretta did enter the College at Ottawa University as a Freshman, 1912-13 Annual Catalogue pg. 94, Sophomore in 1913-14, but she did not continue after that year and did not graduate.

I hope this helps you with your research.
