How do I locate information about healthcare costs per year for Alzheimer's and dementia patients?

I am writing a research paper on the rising costs of caring for people affected with Alzheimer's and would like to know how to find statistics to show what the cost is.

Answer

Hello Amy

If you login to the myottawa.ottawa.edu portal with your OUID and password and go to the Myers Library Online Page and find the Online Library Databases link you can go to Ebscohost or LexisNexis Academic to find medical articles. If you go to Ebscohost, then combine the following databases: Academic Search Premier, Cinahl, HeathSource Academic/Nursing, Medline by checking the boxes next to them and then you can search across them. There are a number of other medical databases in Ebscohost that I have not named here but you can add them too if you like as well. When you do your search by pressing continue, before entering your terms look below the search box for boxes to check that limit your search to peer-reviewed and full-text. Then enter your search terms in the search box  altzheimer's disease patients AND dementia patients  AND costs. When I did this search myself in Ebscohost using the first four databases I mentioned, I found 209 articles between 1984 and 2013. If you limit your year search to the last five then there are 50 full-text articles available. You are welcome to replicate my search as I am sure you will be able to find what you are looking for, for this paper you have to write. If you don't find what you are looking for then try combining other terms with my original search to find better results.
