Is there any information about early OU college around 1870?

Answer

OU started out in the Fall of 1869 with 3 teachers:  Prof Milan Ward, Miss Farner(Music Teacher) and Miss Hatch (Precepteress) and Miss Griffin came in 1870 to run the Indian Department. Our school year was 40 weeks long, with four terms that were 10 weeks each. OU had two departments: a preparatory and an academic department and we had special rates for preparing students for the ministry. Our first catalog came out in 1872 and  the ten week preparatory was $6 per term and the academic$8. Drawing, painting and music was also offered and it cost between $4-6  per week to board in town. Young ladies were boarded in the College building for $3.50 per week. (OU Catalog 1872)

There are lots of details about early OU that can be found in our OU History Books link on the Archives and Collections site. Read the work of B Smith Haworth.
