Under Lacey’s strong leadership, what does the BSU do in the years, say 1990 – 1993?

Answer

In 1990 BSU approved a constitution (Nov 7, 1898); they met every second and fourth Wednesday of the month and emphasized “first and foremost that there was no discrimination on the basis of race, color, religious affiliation or sex for membership. All were welcomed!” (OU Student Yearbook, 1990, p.65). Initial goals included:

1. to raise the consciousness of Blacks 2. To instill a knowledge and respect of Black history (their own history) 3. To establish a sense of ethnic pride and self esteem and 4. Provide cohesiveness through positive teaching of Black history. They held dances, barbeques and dinners for students on the OU campus; brought speakers to campus during Black History Month; set goals for celebrating different races and cultures.
