Actually that reinstatement is not entirely correct, because there was an active organization when there would be a goodly group of Black students on the campus and no organization at all when there was few students with little inclination to continue the organization and its activities at that time. Sometimes if there was a small number of Black students on the Campus and they had no interest in the organization, then it would be on hiatus that year, other years it would flourish again.  We do know that there was a BSU that was active at OU according to our yearbooks in 1972, 1973, 1974, 1977 and 1979. Then in the 1980’s there was an active organization in 1980, 1981, 1982, 1983, 1985 and 1987. The problem is that often our students at OU do not know their own organizational history very well and thus probably assumed that since there was nothing happening when they got here in 1988 and 1989,it had to be re-established.
