how do i find articles on music therapy? Need to narrow a research question

Answer

Hi Sandi

if you go to the OU Portal and login with your OUID and password, go to the Myers Library Online Page and find the Online Library Databases link. Once in the databases find Ebscohost. In Ebscohost you will need to search across everal databases for your topic. I would try checkmarking the following databases: Academic Search Premier, Education Research Complete, PsycArticles. Psychology and Behavioral Sciences Collection and then click continue. This will allow you to search across these four databases. When I did this search, I limited the search by going below the search box and checking peer-review and scholarly articles and then putting in my terms  Music Therapy, if you don't do that, you will get more that 3000 articles on the topic. The problem of course is that in just using the terms Music Therapy, I found 1448 articles in full-text on the topic. To narrow your search you will have to choose additional terms and combine them with your original search term by using AND. Since you will have your own terms, I would try them out by combining them with Music Therapy. Here is my narrowing example: I chose the terms Music Therapy and Autism and found 33 FT articles. Then I searched for Music Therapy AND Autism AND Developmental Disorder and only found 12 FT articles. So narrowing will happen if you keep adding search terms. Try also to be guided by the searchbox terms that appear when you try to add your terms, because these can be helpful to you.
